Budget 2011 Focuses On Agriculture

Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee has laid ample focus on agriculture sector and has announced range of incentives to infuse money in rural pockets of the country in the Union Budget. The Union Budget for the FY 2011-12, has multiple announcements to infuse money in the agricultural sector. This is intended to revamp the ailing agricultural sector and boost food production apart from officially announcing the National Food Security bill in the current year.
Plan outlay for agriculture has been increased to Rs 4,75,000 crore from the existing Rs 3,75,000 crore. The Finance Minister has announced a whopping Rs. 3000 crore to NABARD, the apex body that provides rural credit. He also announced Rs. 150 crore separately for microfinance sector in a bid to infuse cash in hands of small land-holders.
He also informed the House that steps would be taken to step up swift and hassle-free credit availability to the farmers through nationalised banks. The total plan outlay for the social sector programmes has been raised to Rs. 1,60,887 crore with an increase of almost 17 per cent for the FY 2011-12. |
