Electrical power ratings vary from in different countries as well as wall mount power outlets and plugs also vary sometimes. Many countries have different electrical power specifications which are totally different from the specifications which are present at your home and office and hence one need to select a right type of adapter while traveling abroad.
It is advisable that whenever we plan a visit to different country we should take a look to the guide of the power outlet specifications available in the country or countries that we are going to visit and select a suitable power adapter and other electrical accessories that are compatible with the available specifications.
As new technologies are been developing day by day universal power adapters are also available which are compatible with the power out input sockets of many countries but you would need a voltage converter for the proper functioning.
Voltage converters are available in different specifications which generally depend on the purpose and application. For example, a voltage converter for your digital camera recharging unit will be much smaller than the one you would need to turn on your iron, if you have one with you. The varying sizes of such converters depend upon the kind of alternating current or wattage that you would require to either turn on the charger or the iron. The wattage along with the specification of input and output voltages are generally specified on the body of the converter units that you are buying.
